TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR FEET HAPPY WHILE SKIING

Tips For Keeping Your Feet Happy While Skiing
I grew up as part of a skiing family, and one of the things I always struggled with was keeping my feet comfortable while skiing. It took me some time to figure out the right balance to keep myself feeling good on my feet, but once I figured it out, what a difference it made!
“Feet and ankles are particularly important in skiing, as they act as shock absorbers and brakes, as well as helping to steer and accelerate when whizzing down the slopes, so they must be protected as much as possible. Any pre-existing conditions or injuries can not only compromise an athlete’s performance but also leave one open to further damage to the area. However, these risks can be minimized with the right equipment and training,” says Dr. Kevin Kirby, a podiatric physician specializing in biomechanics and sports medicine.
“Healthy feet and ankles, which act together as accelerators, steering, brakes, and shock absorbers in winter sports, are not only crucial to success in competition but also help keep the body upright and out of the emergency room.”
“Ski boots are the most important piece of equipment for skiing, and ill-fitting boots can lead to a host of problems,” says Dr. Kirby. “Ski boots should be a snug fit – if they are too loose, the foot and ankle can slide around inside the boot and the pressure exerted by the constant forward motion and side to side movements of skiing could lead to sprains, strains, and fractures. Too tight, and the boot will rub and blister the foot.”
In addition to ensuring proper boot fit, there are a host of other potential foot health issues that can arise from extended periods spent in cold conditions or being active on your feet.
Sprains/Strains: As much time is spent on your feet and ankles while skiing, it is important to tend to any injuries immediately. If injuries don’t require a visit to the emergency room to check for fractures or broken bones, be sure to use the traditional treatment plan of R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation).
Frostbite: Extended exposure to below freezing temps and snow can leave your feet vulnerable to frostbite. Be sure to know what to look for so you can seek immediate medical attention if necessary. If toes feel extremely cold, are numb or tingling for an extended time period, or if you see your skin changing to a blue or white color, it’s time to get yourself to a doctor ASAP!
Bunions: Bunions can often be irritated by the bug fit of a ski boot. If you have bunions, wearing a tight boot will make the problem worse. You may want to consider a wider fitting ski boot to accommodate your bunion and prevent any further irritation to the foot.
When getting fitted for a ski boot, it is best to visit a fitting professional at a ski shop and rent them for the season, rather than renting at the mountain each time you hit the slopes. Also, be sure to bring any orthotics or inserts with you to be sure your boots can accommodate them.
Now, when you’re not on the slopes- what should you be wearing for that maximum support, comfort, balance, fit, relax feet, wiggle toes, non-aching arches. non-aching insteps, non-aching plantar (bottom) of your feet, non-aching backs – knees-legs when dealing with footwear.
SOME ADVICE:
Let this video explain what a therapeutic design or construction is all about dealing with footwear. Therapeutic/Orthotic consider an extra depth construction.
We are a therapeutic line, and the explanation between a conventional comfort line and our’s found in the video below

2) The strongest heel counter in the business that helps create no bi-lateral movement and the tallest heel counter in the footwear world. A reason whey therapeutic footwear considered extra depth

Why having this 3 to 1 combination last is so important in creating that perfect fit for all our ladies. What does 3 to 1 combination mean? The heel counter is 3 times narrow than the ball width of the shoe. Okay, big deal? Well, this is a critical factor because a women heel structure is a great deal narrow than a Men’s and if we made all our Ladies footwear as the same last of a Men’s style- the ladies heels would slipping all day long or have a terrible fit!
Having these 1 to 3 Customized Heat Moldable Inserts ( that is Free and remember that the shoe has to have a removable footbed for these inserts to work.
